Captain\u2019s log, supplemental. I have received a serious complaint from one of the Vulcan security officers about a threat made to him by our Jem\u2019Hadar first, Kara\u2019Kar.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIs it true?\u201d The captain asked as the Jem\u2019Hadar warrior stood at attention in his ready room.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it is true.\u201d He replied, matter-of-factly.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou threatened the life of one of my security officers, Kara\u2019Kar. This is a very serious offense. I want to know why it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kara\u2019Kar sighed a little. \u201cThe Vulcan was overheard talking very disrespectfully about Sgt. Byrnes, in regard to his being chosen as Lt. Valor\u2019s mate.\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
ANN D raised a brow. Of all the explanations he was waiting for, this was not one on his list he could imagine.<\/p>\n
\u201cI see. So you were…defending Byrne\u2019s honor?\u201d he asked. Kara\u2019Kar seemed to be considering the question before responding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI suppose I was\u201d.<\/p>\n
ANN D smiled. He looked the Jem\u2019Hadar over carefully as if examining him for something he wasn’t sure of.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou and Sgt. Byrnes have become friends, haven\u2019t you?\u201d he asked. Kara\u2019Kar raised a brow at that question.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have grown to respect him. Jem\u2019Hadar do not form \u201cfriendships\u201d. We appreciate worthy warriors, and give them deserved respect. Make of it what you wish.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can appreciate your instinct to come to Byrne\u2019s defense. But we have rules on this ship. You do not threaten any of my officers, no matter what you personally feel…am I understood?\u201d<\/p>\n
Kara\u2019Kar nodded slowly. \u201cAs you wish, Captain. But May I ask, what IS the punishment Ensign Saron will face for this offense?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe will be talked to about slandering any of my men, but his \u201copinion\u201d of Byrnes is not technically a violation of any rules. He has the freedom under the Federation, to have and express his personal views. \u201c<\/p>\n
Kara\u2019Kar seemed unhappy with that answer. \u201cOn a Dominion ship, he would have been executed by now. May I at least \u201cbeat him up?\u201d<\/p>\n
ANN D laughed. He couldn’t help himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, Kara\u2019Kar, you may not beat him up. Let it go. You made it clear to him that you will defend Byrne\u2019s honor, hopefully it will shake him up enough to stop.<\/p>\n
One hour later.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said what about me?\u201d Byrnes yelled, angrily, as Kara\u2019Kar sparred with him on the holodeck.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said you were a imbecilic Human, not worthy of Lt. Valor as a mate, and that she was foolish to be involved with you. He expressed a deep hope that you have not had sex with her yet, to spare her your genetic inferior qualities on any potential offspring that may result from your as he put it–\u201dDisgusting union\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my god, I am going to completely beat his ass to the ground!\u201d Byrnes snarled as he punched and kicked in steps at Kara\u2019kar, who blocked and ducked, letting Byrnes take out his anger on him, not retaliating.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked the captain permission to harm him, but he made it clear that was not allowed.\u201d He informed Byrnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt isn\u2019t. I\u2019\u2019m going to do it anyways!\u201d Byrnes yelled as he stormed out of the holodeck, sweaty in his workout outfit, a look of anger Kara\u2019Kar had never seen on his face before.<\/p>\n
\u201cI should go with him. Vulcans are by default superior to Humans in physical endurance and strength, This should be quite interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\n
Ensign Saron was off duty and standing with a fellow Vulcan male officer in the Watering hole, engaged in conversation when Byrnes came stomping through the doors, sweaty and angry, pointing at Saron as he marched towards him.<\/p>\n
\u201cYOU! You have something to say about me, you say it to my face!\u201d Byrnes yelled, the entire room of patrons stopped what they were doing to look, many shocked at the sudden drama.<\/p>\n
\u201cSergeant Byrnes, please go away before you embarrass yourself the way you have embarrassed Lt. Valor by brainwashing her to let her near you\u201d. The Vulcan said arrogantly and cockily.<\/p>\n
Byrnes walked right up and head butted him…hard. The suddenness of the move caught Saron off guard, startling him and causing a green blooded nosebleed as he tried to grab at Byrnes with a Vulcan nerve pinch, which Byrnes deflected, having anticipated that.<\/p>\n
Byrnes roundhouse kicked Saron not once, but twice, extremely fast and hard, following up with several rapid uppercuts and punches that hit his nose, throat and chin, every weak spot that could stun his opponent.<\/p>\n
Saron dropped. He was unconscious.<\/p>\n
\u201cExcellent!\u201d Kara\u2019Kar yelled. \u201cNow, finish him. Byrnes! Kill this Vulcan scum!\u201d<\/p>\n
The doors opened as Lt. Valor and several security walked in, and had phasers aimed at Byrnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the? Stand down, Byrnes!\u201d Valor ordered. Byrnes backed off slowly, calming himself, breathing heavy.<\/p>\n
Out of nowhere Macos Corporal Naveera and Private Clark, and Corporal Hobbes, walked over and stood by Byrnes glaring at the security officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t touch him!\u201d Naveera yelled. \u201cYou want a bigger incident between the Macos and security? Try us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The guards were spooked and looked back at Valor as if to ask for reassurance of what to do.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat happened here?\u201d Valor asked. \u201cThis Vulcan scum has been disrespecting your mate, insulting his worthiness to be with you, insulting his race as being inferior.\u201d Kara\u2019Kar quickly explained.<\/p>\n
Valor looked at Byrnes, then down at the Vulcan who served under her in security, who was still unconscious.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou only helped his prejudice of you by giving in to your emotions, Byrnes\u201d. Valor informed him. \u201cYou know I have to arrest you for assaulting an officer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Byrnes sighed and nodded slowly.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
One Hour later<\/p>\n
Byrnes was sitting quietly in his cell in the brig. Waiting on a decision by the Captain in regard to the incident.<\/p>\n
Valor walked up, shut off the force field, stepped in, and re activated it from inside using a padd command,<\/p>\n
She sat next to Byrnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry. I wish I had controlled myself better.\u201d Byrnes said softly.<\/p>\n
\u201cCharles, the only reason you reacted the way you did was you are insecure. You worry that his words are true, or you would have been able to ignore them.\u201d She softly responded.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are you with me? I\u2019m not an officer. I\u2019m Human. I\u2019m not an intellectual equal to you. What is it that makes you even continue to\u2026?\u201d he began to ask her.<\/p>\n
Valor held a finger to his lips to quiet him before softly replying.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I follow IDIC, Charles. Do you know what IDIC is?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
Byrnes shook his head.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve heard the word, but never bothered to look it up.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means Infinite Diversities in Infinite Combinations\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a Vulcan philosophy. While we embrace control of our emotions, and logic, we also embrace allowing ourselves to learn from exposure to others who are not like us.<\/p>\n
You have to understand Charles, we may control our emotions, but we HAVE emotions. There is a difference between control, and having them. I DO feel emotions. I simply keep them suppressed. I am not an android.<\/p>\n
Being with you DOES affect me on an emotional level, you just cannot see it easily. KNOWING you, affects me. I think about you when we are not together. I enjoy BEING with you, and regret when I am NOT with you.<\/p>\n
I am committed to being in a relationship with you. I enjoy it. I desire it. I would not choose to change it.<\/p>\n
Byrnes looked at her, startled by her words. He had never heard such emotion come out of someone who did not express any.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m in love with you, Valor.\u201d He confessed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know.\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n
They stared at one another, and she was about to speak, when Captain ANN D suddenly materialized his holographic form outside the cell.<\/p>\n
\u201cSergeant Byrnes, if you pull another stunt like that again, you will be busted down in rank to Private and command of the Macos removed. Am I understood?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes sir. I won\u2019t let it happen again, sir.\u201d Byrnes replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood. I managed to convince Ensign Saron not to press formal charges. I recommend you stay out of his way for a while. Lt. Valor, you can release Byrnes at your leisure.\u201d<\/p>\n
He vanished.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt seems the captain has left you to my control.\u201d Valor said, sarcastically.<\/p>\n
\u201cYep. Seems that way.\u201d Byrnes replied, smiling.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I will…keep you here for a bit longer.\u201d She said, as she leaned in for a kiss.<\/p>\n
\u201cSounds good to me.\u201d Byrnes said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
24 hours later<\/p>\n
Byrnes was all smiles as he walked out of the brig. Kara\u2019Kar caught up with him as he walked.<\/p>\n
\u201cI take it you are not going to be executed for your disobedience?\u201d He asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cNope. Not this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou acted honorably. My Jem\u2019Hadar have spread the tales of your deed all across the ship. You have earned respect among them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Byrnes laughed. \u201cWho would have ever thought when we first met, you would be out praising my honor?\u201d<\/p>\n
Kara\u2019Kar shrugged. \u201cJust to be clear, we are not friends. I merely showed respect for a fellow warrior.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course you did.\u201d Byrnes remarked. \u201cCome on, non-friend. Let\u2019s go spar some more.\u201d<\/p>\n
